Overview
An AI-powered platform that digitises the fight against marine plastic pollution, from Lagos lagoon shores to FCT waterways.
The challenge
Around 2,400 tonnes of plastic reach Nigerian coasts every year, but reporting was informal and unverifiable — leaving agencies without the data needed to prioritise cleanups or shape policy.
What we did
- Built a sub-one-minute report flow: photo plus location, usable on a low-end phone.
- Applied an AI model to classify waste type, score ocean risk, and flag urgent hotspots automatically.
- Introduced AquaCredits so reporters and school eco-clubs are rewarded for verified contributions.
- Gave government users live hotspot tracking and exportable datasets for policy work.
The outcome
Local cleanup action is now captured as verified, exportable data — connecting citizen reporting directly to coordinated coastal recovery.
